Scotland Golf

May 2023

We wanted to play golf while in Scotland. We were able to walk to the course from the cruise port. To our disappointment, the doors were open but the course was closed for another 2 hours. Then I read a sign saying if no one was there, payment was on the honor system. WOW! We loaded up a a set of rental clubs on the cart and teed it up. Beautiful little course!!
We were only going to play 9 holes as we needed to get back to the ship by a certain time. As we were approaching the green of what we thought was the fourth hole, a lady came toward us with water and a candy bar. She told us we had made a wrong turn and were actually on the 18th. She then got another cart and took us back to where we went wrong and give us a guide for the rest of the course.
We finished out our round on this well kept course with the ocean and highland mountains in our view enjoying the beauty of both. Although relatively short, the course offers a good challenge. And stay away from the gorse bushes!!
I'm not sure which we were more impressed by more, the course or the friendliness of the people there.
But either way if you have the chance to play this course don't think twice, DO IT!

Fantastic country golf club in Scotland

We arrived in Invergorden on a cruise ship. We went initially to check out the golf club just out of interest. We soon found ourselves with carts and clubs playing on this delightful, beautifully presented and very pretty course. The people were very friendly and the course, while not long, had something for all levels of golfer.

A wonderful day on the links at Invergordon Golf Club, Invergordon, Scotland

My husband and I arrived from the cruise ship early in the morning - an easy walk from the port. We had balls, tees and a glove with us, but Val set us up with club rentals and a push cart and off we went. What a treat this course was - gorgeous Firth of Cromarty views, mature rhododendron in bloom, and friendly members (and of course, Val) to guide us. I quit at 14 and came back to the bar, to chat with other golfers and have a cold Tennents on draft - served of course by Val. My husband played the full 18 and came back thrilled to have shot an 89. Invergordon is now one of his favorite courses, in excellent shape and long and challenging. Such a fun way to spend a gorgeous day with warm and friendly people. Would highly recommend.!

Email received from a guy enjoying his round of golf at IGC

Congratulations to you the committee, Graehme, Lenny, John, Norman and all the other volunteers. I have gone out and played six holes on Wednesday the 16th of August after 6pm. I was full of admiration for the way the course is being looked after and the superb condition its in. A true delight. The fairways cut to perfection, bunkers raked and weed free, rough looking good, paths cut of tees, tees themselves cut and trimmed. As for those greens... wow! 7pm and still running true and fast. Members out enjoying the course in this late evening sunshine.  The fact that there's golfers out playing at this time of night is a testament to the effort and work going in? Four young members teeing of at 19.30 talked about how good it is.

Keep up the good work.

27th  July 23

IGC have a OPEN using Russian Roulette format on the 27th August 23

In a Russian Roulette competition, a team of two players have their Stableford scores on each hole multiplied together. The team score is the sum of the multiplied hole scores.

For example: Tiger and Leopard both score two Stableford points on the first hole. Multiplying these scores gives a total of four points. On the second hole Tiger scores a birdie and three points but Leopard gets into spots of bother and scores zero Stableford points. Multiplying these scores gives zero for the team on that hole.

Review from Facebook Golfing for Scotland

Challenge to play every course in Scotland.

My first stop of the day was Invergordon Golf Club which sits between Tain and Inverness overlooking the Cromarty Firth.

This is a course I've been meaning to play for a while but usually get stuck playing the links courses too many times to get near it.

It opens up with a really nice par 3 protected by a couple of bunkers. I'm not usually a fan of par 3s as opening or closing holes but this is one of the exceptions.

Invergordon is a parkland course and at a time where lots of inland courses are struggling with condition, this place is looking great. The greens rolled excellent and the fairways look really nice with the half and half cut giving them good definition.

One of my favorite holes was the par 4 third. Its a fairly straight forward drive but the second shot is played downhill to a green nestled between a tree and a bunker. The views over the Cromarty Firth in the background make this a really nice looking hole.

Number 8 is probably the standout hole and a beauty of a par 3. From the back tee its only about 130y but it has a large pond protecting front right of the green so club selection and accuracy is vital on this great wee hole.

There is a few up and down holes towards the back of the course but for the most part its pretty varied. It's an easy walking course and very well-maintained so if you're in the area and fancy a change from the links courses it's definitely worth a shot.

The girl I spoke to behind the bar was very friendly and recommended the nearby Dalmore Farm for lunch. The breakfast was awesome and the shop has a good selection of Whisky, Gin and everything else Scottish so an ideal place to pick up a few gifts for the family.

Can I say if you haven't played golf at Invergordon following the appointment of Graeme Mellis, I think you should.

Greens iron, volunteers, targeted bunkers. Superb.

I can honestly say the greens are already the quickest and truest they've ever been.

Well done everyone involved.

Excellent value for money. Greens were running true. You can tell it’s built in the grounds of a castle. Beautiful. The 8th over the pond is a feature hole. Not long but wouldn’t want to play it with a stiff breeze. Nice mix of short and long par 4s. 2 and 16 aren’t long but trouble and OB is very tight. 3, 6, and 11 are big holes but very fair.

Met Val the Clubhouse Manager. What a blast. Worth forgetting about the golf and just go speak to her.

All in all, a very pleasant golfing experience.

May 18 2022 Course in excellent shape, par 69 at 6000 yards has many holes to test your long game. Course has excellent service. We were in port on a Princess Cruise, you can walk to the course but the course staff will pick you up and drive you back.

Lovely Course

Mar 2022

Played the course for the first time in years in fact I had never played it as and 18 hole course and really is a lovely parkland course in lovely surrounding. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition and even more so considering it is only March. Val in the clubhouse was very welcoming and I can definitely recommend anyone to try out the course when in the area.
Clubs and trolleys are also available for anyone visiting (thinking cruise ship visitors).
